Coloured Pencil Baby Turns 21

Happy Birthday Lucy Podstolski Clements!

Lucy poses with the first coloured pencil drawing I drew in 1994.

Once upon a time in 1994 a baby called Lucy made it way too hard for her mother to continue painting with oils.  The mother wondered how she could go on making art while attending to Lucy’s needs.  Coloured pencils were the answer of course…and they all lived happily ever after.

Lucy Clements was that infant who changed the course of (my) art history.  Her name was inspired by three great Lucys; Lucille Ball, Lucy van Pelt, and Lucy, heroine of Narnia.   (I made sure she became au fait with each of them.)   Our Lucy turns 21 years old today – 30th April 2015!

The art gene in the Podstolski Clements family is a persistent one.  Like her two big sisters, Lucy also hopes for a life in the arts.  Her preferred medium is theatre.   Lucy wrote a play which is going to be performed at Perth’s Blue Room Theatre in June.   I will let Lucy introduce “Fracture” to you herself.  (Click on this link)  http://www.pozible.com/project/195329

To our vivacious and creative youngest daughter, the original Coloured Pencil Baby, HAPPY BIRTHDAY LUCY!

Three daughters playing 'Animals Gymnastics' some time ago.

Sisters: Emily, Alicia and Lucy staging their production ‘Animals Gymnastics Competition’ some time ago. (OK, so Lucy mainly watched in this case.)

Such an accomplished young woman, and so beautiful! You have so much to be proud of having 3 such brilliant daughters! It is what brought me to coloured pencils as well, the portability and the ease when my sons were little. I loved The Narnia tales as a child and read them to mine when they were young. You see my oldest son is severely dyslexic and could never read at his age level so anything I thought he would like we read as a family.
